Madeline Gins Evening, Giorno Poetry Systems
NY
architect-poet whose independent practice — visual art, performance, poetry, film, and scientific research — remains underexplored despite her well-known collaborations with husband Shusaku Arakawa. This event evoked her legacy through lecture, reading, and conversation, exploring her neologisms, wordplay, and refusal of rational constraint.
As Lecturer, I gave a talk on Gins' language and vernacular, drawing on my time working directly with her at her studio from 2011 to 2014, followed by a discussion with poet Pamela Sneed and curator Charlotte Youkilis on Gins' legacy.
